Shilpa Shetty says Jade Goody made me a star

The Bollywood stunner and the TV celebrity appeared on Big Brother in 2007, where Goody sparked thousands of complaints from viewers for her allegedly racist abuse of Shetty.

“She was the architect of my fame, and I give her the credit for that,” The Telegraph quoted Shetty, as saying during an interview on Richard and Judy.

Goody passed away on Sunday after a highly publicised battle with cervical cancer. She was 27.

Shetty said it was “destiny” for the pair to work together again on that show, but added: “We didn”t get a chance to bury the hatchet.

“We kind of moved on with our lives. Every time her name was taken mentioned. my name would be taken and the whole racism issue would be raked up… we had this weird connect in a strange way.”

Shetty said she last spoke to Goody two days before the British star got married in February.“She led a very short life, but she’’s seen it all, she’’s seen the highs, the lows, she’’s had children at such a young age, she’’s married.

Aishwarya Rai has declined to be immortalised as a Barbie dol

Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai has declined to be immortalised as a Barbie doll, due to her professional commitments.

It was earlier reported that representatives of the 35-year-old actress were in negotiations with Barbie’s manufacturer Mattel, who planned to give the iconic doll a Bollywood face. But the deal did not take off.

Since 1994 when Aishwarya won the Miss World title, the company has made numerous attempts to make a celebrity doll modelled on the Indian beauty. However, she could never get time for their endeavour, due to her professional commitments, she said.

Yet again on the doll’s 50th anniversary, Aishwarya was approached to appear decked up as a celebrity Barbie.

“Mattel was keen to have the actress walk the ramp on Lakme Fashion Week ‘Barbie dolled up’ in a winning design as Single Likeness Barbie, which would be unveiled and auctioned for a charity of her choice,” said a statement issued by Aishwarya’s spokesperson.

However, the actress opted out due to her prior commitments as she did not want to cause inconvenience to the film-makers she was working with by taking time out for the event.

Vatika has zeroed in on Genelia as its ambassador while Asin until recently was Parachute’s model.

Mobile service providers, who have also entered advertising their services in a big way, today boast of two big names for endorse them. Bebo along with boyfriend Saif for Airtel and Asin, again, for Tata Indicom.

Katrina Kaif on Friday walked the ramp as a Barbie at Lakme Fashion Week here.Designers had put together a special show to showcase 50 years of the Barbie doll.Barbie, the iconic doll that has helped young girls pass countless hours in a make-believe world that mirrored real life glamour, turned 50 on March 23.Katrina Kaif said that she would always cherish the memory of walking the ramp as a Barbie.“It will always be very special memory for me because a doll is something which will be in the archives for ever,” Kaif said.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is in for some trouble as the Income Tax department has moved the Supreme Court challenging a seven-month-old order of the Bombay high court, which had given relief to Big B in a case related to his super hit TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

The Income Tax department is not in consensus with the HC order that had agreed to Bachchan claiming a benefit under Section 80RR of the Income Tax Act which provides 30% tax relief on income of artistes from outside India.

According to the department, Big B was an anchor of ‘KBC ’ and not an artist. Moreover, the income to be categorised under Section 80RR must have either come from abroad or the artist must have performed outside India but in this case the show was shot in Mumbai itself hence, no tax relief should be granted.The dispute over taxation is on a total earning of Rs 13 crore which Bachchan earned from ‘KBC’.

Shah Rukh Khan Will Change His IPL Team Name

It is being suspected that Shahrukh Khan has been discarding his IPL team captain because he was suggested by his numerologist that number 8 is not favorable for him and he should remove the name Kolkatta from his IPL team logo. Saurav Ganguly is a number 8 person and hence he had to be replaced by somebody who is luckier for Khan. Many numerologists have been predicting that the number 8 is not only unlucky for Shahrukh but the number has been harming him and it was said that when Shahrukh entered his 44th year of life that summed to 8, he had to suffer the shoulder injury and he was kept out of action for the health issue.His film “Billu” did not perform well on box office and the use of Black color in team jersey was also opposed by astrologists.

Mugdha Godse Takes on Asin

Asin walked away with all the awards for her debut act in Ghajini this year. And one actress who is highly disappointed with this is Mugdha Godse, a catwalker who made a mark in her debut film Fashion. Mugdha expressed her displeasure by saying, “Awards are just trophies and if all of them have gone to an actress who has done around 12-13 South Indian films already, what can you say?

People have appreciated my performance in Fashion and their SMSes are my rewards.” While Godse readies herself for Bhandarkar’s Jail, she better ready herself for a solid catfight, too, because we aren’t so sure that Asin is the quiet, listening types.

Neha Dhupia Telly trouble

It was recently reported that Neha Dhupia will be participating in the second season of Khatron Ke Khiladi, but she denies it.

Neha says that with five films lined up for release this year there’s no time for television. The films in her kitty include Paying Guest, Pappu Can’t Dance Saala, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, Raftaar and De Dhana Dan. She says, “Obviously there has been a communication gap. There is absolutely no confirmation or even speculation from my end about being part of the show.”

Celina Jaitley wary of relationships

Darling, I was busy, the gorgeous Celina Jaitley croons over the phone. Finally, she took our call as she awaited her flight back home, having spent more than 10 days in Hyderabad.

“It was like studying for the board exams,” she sighs and explains —“It’s for Sreemathi, dear! I’d been mugging up two pages of Kannada dialogues everyday!”

By the way, Celina’s who’s done an international film, Love Has No Language, is a whiz with languages. Hold your breath! She knows more than five languages and that includes German (she’s a pro she says) and a smattering of Spanish.

So, she does seem to have a fascination for all things firang — from Hollywood ventures, to being a tourist ambassador for Egypt, to boyfriends. When we ask her, she laughs, “I had only one boyfriend and it was a bad experience. I am wary now of relationships. I don’t believe in casual dating and I am looking for a relationship that lasts a lifetime. For the past three years, I haven’t felt the need for a partner. I’m busy with work and life is good!”

Yes it is! Her platter’s full and she’s got interesting roles to play. She reels out a list — “In Sreemathi, a remake of Aitraaz, I play a gold-digger. This is the first time I’m doing a negative role. In my upcoming films I play varied roles, from the typical Sandra from Bandra, to a bar dancer in Tigmanshu Dholia’s Showman, who loves to speak English just to show that she’s educated. Then in Suneel Darshan’s film, I play a psychopath who keeps a man half-alive for 25 days — this is a real life incident that was made into the film Accident at Hill Road” she says. Celina tells us that she also doing a Bengali film, besides Subhash Ghai’s Hello Darling and Paying Guest. Then there’s Chai Garam with Govinda and Run Bhola Run which stars Tusshar Kapoor.

And, what about her pending Hollywood project Queen of Scheherzade. “The film had got delayed due to a writer’s strike and then it is recession now. But the film is on the floors and I had to undergo special training for the film. Riding a horse without a saddle is a challenge and I also learnt sword fighting - I had to do it with a short Afghan knife called the khara.”

Slowly, we veer her back to Hyderabad. So, how was her stay here? “I’m not joking. Hyderabad is fantabulous. It should be the capital of India! I loved gorging on haleem everyday. It’s the best in the world.”

Haleem, that too during Lent, the 40-days of fasting, that she is known to keep? “This is the fist time I’ve skipped, that too on doctor’s advice. I’ve had bouts of low BP and I was afraid I’d conk out on the sets,”

The latest darling of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut was born in a village named ‘Bhambla’ in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on March 20, 1987.

Her mother was a school teacher and her father was a businessman. She has one elder sister and a younger brother.

Kangana did her schooling in Chandigarh from DAV model school Sector 15 and later shifted to Shimla, where she completed her high schooling.

After that, she joined the Elite Modelling Agency situated in Delhi in 2003 to become a model. But she was not successful.

Before moving to Mumbai, Kangana joined Asmita Theatre group during 2003-2005 as a theatre. She came to Mumbai in early 2004 and struggled initially to join film industry, but she failed and went back to Delhi to finish her education.

In 2004, she joined Asha Chandra’s acting school to brush herself to face camera. After a fight of nearly two years, she met Anurag Basu in September 2005 and was selected for Gangster.

The girl has won many awards for her exceptional performances in her films. In 2007, she won Filmfare Best Female Debut Award, Gangster; Filmfare Fairever Fresh Face of the Year Award, Gangster; IIFA Best Female Debut Award, Gangster; Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Female, Gangster; Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut, Gangster; Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow - Female, Gangster and Bollywood Movie Award - Best Female Debut for Gangster.

In 2008, she won Stardust Breakthrough Performance Award (Female), Life in a… Metro; and in 2009, she bagged two awards for ‘Fashion’ including Stardust Best Supporting Actress Award plus Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award, Fashion.

It’s a little uncanny then that the actress will be essaying the role of the match-making Emma from Jane Austen’s classic, in a celluloid, modern-adaptation (called Aisha) of the same. Akshay Kumar Raring To Get Back With Tasveer

Unnerved by the failure of his last release Chandni Chowk to China , Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar today said he was confident that his forthcoming super natural film Tasveer 8×10 ,directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, will do well.

“I did Nagesh’s film because I liked the story and went by the director’s instinct. I am confident it will do well,” Akshay, who has taken a break from comedies to feature in thrillers in 2009, told reporters here.

The actor said he was used to over the top performances in his last few films but Nagesh wanted him to be restrained.

“I got irritated for the first four days of our schedule but on the fifth day we understood each other and I decided to go by the director’s vision,” he said adding that this was the reason for rumours surfacing about him walking off the sets after fighting with the director.

“I would never do that with any director. I am satisfied with the end result and happy that I followed his vision.”

Asked about the huge money riding on his shoulders, Akshay, whose upcoming films in 2009 includes big budget movies like Blue , Kambhakt Ishq , Houseful and De Dhana Dhan among others, said, producers have earned money through his films from 2006-08.

Tasveer 8×10 , that releases on April 3,is the last release before the producers bodies ban on screening films in multiplexes comes into effect from April 4.

Deepika Padukone would like to play audrey hepburn

Deepika Padukone has had a dream-run in Bollywood with just three releases, but the model-turned-actress says her dream is to play the elegant Audrey Hepburn, her style icon.

“I would like to play Audrey Hepburn, my style icon, in movies like ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ or ‘Roman Holiday’,” Deepika told reporters on the sidelines of the Wills India Fashion Week (WIFW) Saturday, where she walked the ramp for Ranna Gill and Rina Dhaka’s collections sponsored by luxury brand Fiama Di Wills.

After debuting opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2007 hit “Om Shanti Om” and doing “Chandni Chowk To China” with Akshay Kumar, Deepika’s next is “Love Aaj Kal” alongside Saif Ali Khan. And she is all praise for filmmaker Imtiaz Ali of “Jab We Met” fame.

“I enjoyed working with Imtiaz Ali in his movie ‘Love Aaj Kal’, where he cast me opposite Saif. It was a dream working for a sensitive director like him. Imtiaz just seemed to know the kind of person we were and brought out the best in us. He guided all through the movie,” said the leggy beauty who was dressed in a simple black halter-neck.

Deepika is now looking forward to begin work for newcomer Vijay Lalwani’s “Kartik Calling Kartik”, which also stars actor-director Farhan Akhtar and Boman Irani.

“It is an offbeat movie, a psychological thriller. But I am not going to talk much about it,” she said.

The actress admits she has a soft corner for action movies, though all genres appeal to her.

“An action movie is something I have always wanted to do, but I cannot specify any real genre that appeals to me. Cinema today is changing. And as an actor, I will never throw my hands up… will never be happy saying this is the best character I have portrayed. I am critical of myself, rarely happy,” said Deepika.

The funny, witty and the chat show with a uniqueness, “Oye! Its Friday” has come to an end after 15 weeks of entertaining episodes and what better way to end the show than to have the gorgeous lady Shilpa Shetty as the celebrity guest for the last episode.

The episode had Shilpa sharing her experiences with Farhan on meeting Queen Elizabeth and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown after she shot to fame on winning the UK based reality show ‘Big Brother’. A sneek-peak into ‘Kaminay’ movie

‘Kaminey’ is by far the most awaited and talked about films of 2009. The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra along with Amole Gupte and is directed by the ace director Vishal Bhardwaj. Amole Gupte, who wrote the story and screenplay of Taare Zameen Par makes his acting debut with this film as a comical Don, Bhope Bhau. The movie is being produced by UTV Motion Pictures.

The film has Shahid Kapoor in a double role for the first time in his career- Guddu and Charlie. While Charlie has a lisp, Guddu would be seen stammering. Shahid sports a bronzed and rugged look in the film and has also developed a chiseled physique for his character.

Priyanka Chopra, who looked her glamorous best in her last two flicks, ‘Dostana’ and ‘Fashion’, will be seen playing Sweety, a simple Maharashtrian girl and hence would be seen dressed in simple Indian dresses like salwar kameez and even the traditional Maharashtrian saree. The actress has even spoken quite a lot of Marathi in the film.
